Meet Ernie Rivas II: WorkOne Northern Indiana's New Veteran Rep

WorkOne Northern Indiana welcomes Ernesto Rivas II, better known as Ernie, as the new Veteran Representative. With a rich background in service and a personal story that blends dedication, humor, and a passion for helping others, Ernie brings a wealth of experience and energy to the team.

From Marine Corps to WorkOne

Before joining WorkOne Northern Indiana, Ernie served as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant in the Marine Corps, deploying across the globe to protect and serve the United States. After completing his service, he sought employment services at WorkOne so frequently that they eventually offered him a job! For Ernie, returning to WorkOne now feels like coming home.

How He Got the Name "Ernie 2.0"

Ernie’s nickname comes with a fun backstory. Back in 2013, when Ernie first worked with WorkOne, he found himself receiving emails meant for an unemployment agent named Ernie Rivera. Unsure how to respond, he reached out to his manager, who reminded him that he wasn’t in charge of unemployment claims and pointed out that there was another "Ernie" in the Warsaw office.

"She jokingly called me "Ernie 2.0"—a nod to me being the new and improved version. The name stuck, and I've been Ernie ever since!" - Ernesto Rivas II

Life Outside of Work

Ernie is married and has a 15-year-old daughter who keeps him on his toes, along with a 13-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named "Toh-Toy"—a Filipino term for "Junior." And when he’s not busy with family or work, Ernie indulges in his hobby: collecting He-Man toys, which proudly fill a display room in his home.

Ernie’s commitment to serving others, both in the military and through his work at WorkOne, makes him a perfect fit for his role as Veteran Representative. He’s excited to work with the Northern Indiana community and looks forward to meeting and supporting local veterans in their career journeys.

Welcome, Ernie! We’re so glad to have you back at WorkOne Northern Indiana!
